First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This small pilot study tested whether stimulating two brain areas at once could help Parkinson's patients who still have freezing of gait despite standard deep brain stimulation. Ten participants received combined stimulation of the substantia nigra pars reticulata and subthalamic nucleus. The goal was to see if this reduces freezing episodes and improves walking.
