Denmark ditches dipsticks: will fewer tests mean better care?

NCT ID NCT06750666

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study will analyze what happens when hospitals in northern Denmark stop using urine dipsticks to diagnose urinary tract infections (UTIs). Researchers will compare data from before and after the change, looking at how many UTIs are diagnosed, how often antibiotics are prescribed, and whether patient outcomes like death or readmission are affected. The study involves about 480,000 adults admitted to emergency rooms, using only existing medical records.
