Cold water flush after ERCP may stop pancreatitis in its tracks
NCT ID NCT07381478
First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tested whether rinsing the bile duct opening with cold (3°C) sterile saline right after an ERCP procedure can lower the risk of pancreatitis, a common complication. About 900 adults in Colombia took part, and the main goal was to see how many developed pancreatitis within 24 hours. The approach is simple, low-cost, and could be easily added to standard care if proven effective.
