First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study tested a simple idea: spraying cold saline (about 37°F) on the bile duct opening during an ERCP to prevent a common complication called pancreatitis. Researchers in Colombia enrolled 900 adults having an ERCP. Half received the cold saline treatment, and the other half received standard care. The main goal was to see if cooling the area reduced the number of people who developed pancreatitis within 24 hours.
