New study tests outreach calls and texts to boost smoking cessation

NCT ID NCT05382221

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested a program called Comprehensive Chronic Care (CCC) that uses regular phone calls, texts, and mailings to encourage smokers to quit. Nearly 1,000 adult smokers from primary care clinics were randomly assigned to receive either CCC or standard care (one annual offer of help). The main goal was to see if more people in the CCC group had stopped smoking after 18 months, confirmed by a breath test. The study also looked at cost-effectiveness and how many people engaged with the program.
