New nerve block technique may be safer and easier for mastectomy pain

NCT ID NCT02911168

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tested two different ultrasound-guided nerve blocks to control pain in 20 women having mastectomy. The goal was to see if a newer, more side-lying block (proximal intercostal) is easier to perform and safer than the standard paravertebral block. Researchers measured how well they could see the needle and the time needed to do the block.
