Heart disease breakthrough? colchicine trial aims to cut attacks and strokes

NCT ID NCT07349875

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a low dose of colchicine (a well-known anti-inflammatory drug) to standard heart treatments can lower the risk of major heart problems like heart attacks and strokes. About 3,800 adults with stable coronary artery disease and non-blocking plaque will take either colchicine or a placebo daily for up to 3 years. The goal is to see if reducing inflammation can prevent future cardiovascular events.
