Anesthesia study probes carbon Monoxide's hidden protective powers

NCT ID NCT07352826

First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at how small amounts of carbon monoxide (CO) in the blood during anesthesia affect certain proteins linked to inflammation and cell health. Researchers will measure CO levels and three proteins (NF-kB, NRF2, PGC-1α) in 120 adults having surgery. The goal is to understand if low CO levels can be protective, not just toxic.
