Summary

This study looked at whether stopping coffee helps prevent atrial fibrillation (AFib) from returning after a heart shock treatment called cardioversion. Two hundred coffee drinkers with AFib were randomly assigned to either keep drinking coffee or avoid it for six months. Researchers tracked how many people in each group had another AFib episode.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
coffee
What this could lead to
If quitting coffee reduces AFib recurrence, it could offer a simple lifestyle change to help manage the condition.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial. Results may not apply to everyone, and quitting coffee might not make a difference for all patients.
