Brain implant learns when to zap pain

NCT ID NCT03029884

First seen Feb 17, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests a new type of deep brain stimulation that only turns on when the brain senses pain, rather than running all the time. The goal is to see if this on-demand approach provides better, longer-lasting relief for people with hard-to-treat chronic pain from stroke, spinal cord injury, or phantom limb pain. Four adults will use the device and report their pain levels over time.
