Antibiotic shield tested for young leukemia patients

NCT ID NCT04678869

First seen Mar 06, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving the antibiotic ciprofloxacin daily can prevent bacterial infections in children (ages 1-17) being treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. About 313 children in the UK will either receive ciprofloxacin or standard care during the first month of chemotherapy. The goal is to see if this approach reduces infections and fever without increasing antibiotic resistance.
