NCT ID NCT06659588

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 40 times

Summary

This study is investigating whether a chronic infection with a common gut virus might cause liver and digestive problems in people with primary or secondary immune deficiencies. Researchers will collect blood, stool, urine, and tissue samples from 120 participants to look for the virus and track any related liver or gut damage. The goal is to better understand these complications and identify who is most at risk.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this research could identify a new cause of chronic liver and gut problems in immunocompromised patients, potentially leading to better monitoring or treatments.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It is early-stage and may not find a clear link between the virus and the health issues being studied.

Conditions
