First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tested whether using a special PET scan (FAZA PET/CT) to find oxygen-starved tumor cells can improve radiation treatment for chordoma, a rare bone cancer. 64 adults with chordoma in the skull base, spine, or sacrum received surgery followed by proton therapy guided by this scan. The goal was to better control the tumor locally for at least 3 years.
