New scan-guided radiation shows promise for rare bone cancer
NCT ID NCT02802969
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding a special PET scan (FAZA PET/CT) to standard imaging can improve local control of chordoma, a rare bone tumor, after surgery. The scan identifies oxygen-starved (hypoxic) cells that are resistant to radiation, allowing doctors to target them more precisely. 64 adults with chordoma of the skull base, spine, or sacrum participated. The goal was to see if this approach reduces the chance of the tumor coming back within 3 years.
