Simple STI test during pregnancy could stop thousands of preterm births

NCT ID NCT07458802

First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study will see if testing and treating pregnant women for chlamydia and gonorrhea can lower the chance of having a baby too early (preterm birth). About 2,000 women in Botswana will be split into two groups: one gets usual care, the other gets extra STI tests early and late in pregnancy. The goal is to find out if this approach is both effective and affordable.
