First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looked at 250 people with Chiari malformation type I and a fluid-filled cavity in the spinal cord (syringomyelia). It compared two surgical methods: one that relieves pressure at the base of the skull and opens the protective lining, and another that also removes or shrinks the tonsils of the brain. The goal was to see which approach better shrinks the spinal cavity and improves quality of life with fewer side effects.
