NCT ID NCT06079125

First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looked at 250 people with Chiari malformation type I and a fluid-filled cavity in the spinal cord (syringomyelia). Researchers compared two surgical methods: one that removes a small piece of skull bone and opens the protective covering of the brain, with or without adjusting the tonsils (part of the brain). The goal was to see which approach better shrinks the spinal cavity and improves quality of life, while causing fewer side effects like infection or fluid leaks.
