New mammogram technique could spare thousands from needless breast biopsies

NCT ID NCT05206331

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tests whether contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) can safely reduce the number of breast biopsies for women with low-suspicion findings. About 2,100 women scheduled for biopsy will first get a CEM scan. If CEM shows the abnormality is likely benign, the biopsy may be avoided. The goal is to cut unnecessary biopsies by at least 20% while still catching nearly all cancers.
