Heart scan strategy aims to slash heart attacks in 3,100 patients

NCT ID NCT06843005

First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether using repeat CT scans of the heart to track plaque buildup can improve cholesterol control and prevent major heart problems like heart attacks and strokes. About 3,100 adults with non-obstructive coronary artery disease will be randomly assigned to either standard care or a strategy that includes follow-up CT scans. The goal is to see if the scan-guided approach leads to better use of cholesterol-lowering medications and fewer cardiovascular events over three years.
