New heart procedure aims to tame stubborn atrial fibrillation

NCT ID NCT07446244

First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests a catheter-based procedure to treat people with persistent or long-standing atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) who also have an enlarged left atrium. The procedure uses targeted energy to isolate areas in the heart that cause the abnormal rhythm. The main goal is to see if it can prevent the arrhythmia from coming back for at least a year without the need for antiarrhythmic drugs.
