New ultrasound score could revolutionize stroke risk prediction

NCT ID NCT07178015

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study involves 855 adults with asymptomatic carotid plaques (fatty buildups in neck arteries). Researchers will use a new ultrasound-based scoring system called Plaque-RADS, combined with advanced imaging, to see if it can predict stroke risk more accurately than current methods. The goal is to identify high-risk patients earlier so they can receive preventive treatment, potentially reducing strokes and related deaths.
