First seen Mar 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tests a middle school science curriculum called CARES4You, designed to teach students about cancer risk and healthy choices. About 1,800 students in New York City public schools will either receive the curriculum during regular science class or continue with usual lessons. Researchers will measure whether the program increases students' intentions to adopt healthy behaviors and whether it sparks conversations about cancer at home.

CARES4You Curriculum (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If successful, this curriculum could provide schools with a practical way to teach cancer prevention and encourage healthier behaviors in teens.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study measuring intentions, not actual cancer outcomes. Results may not lead to long-term behavior change or reduced cancer rates.
