Summary

Many female athletes eat less carbohydrate than they need. Researchers want to know whether showing teen athletes their own metabolic test results changes their attitudes about carbohydrate more than a standard nutrition lesson does. Girls aged 13 to 19 at a sports academy join either an education session alone or education plus a treadmill test that measures how their bodies use fuel. The study compares beliefs between the two groups.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
nutrition education and a treadmill metabolic test with shared results
What this could lead to
If personal metabolic data shifts athletes' beliefs, sports programs could use it to encourage better fueling and protect health.
What could go wrong
This small study measures attitudes, not actual eating habits or performance, so any change in beliefs may not translate into real behavior.
