Simple finger test may predict sepsis outcomes better than blood work

NCT ID NCT06727318

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looked at 192 adults with septic shock in the ICU. Researchers compared a simple bedside test (capillary refill time) with standard blood lactate levels to see which better predicts patient outcomes. They found that both prolonged capillary refill and high lactate levels are linked to worse prognosis. The goal is to help doctors quickly identify high-risk patients using easier methods.
