Hope for cancer patients: can thyroid medication be stopped after immunotherapy?

NCT ID NCT07421869

First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looks at whether hypothyroidism caused by immune checkpoint inhibitors (a type of cancer immunotherapy) can get better after stopping the immunotherapy. Researchers want to see how many patients can safely stop taking thyroid hormone replacement (levothyroxine) and what factors predict recovery. The study involves 107 adult cancer patients who developed hypothyroidism during immunotherapy and have already stopped that treatment. Participants will gradually reduce their thyroid medication under close monitoring.
