Menthol ban loophole? study tests if 'Menthol-Free' cigarettes still taste minty

NCT ID NCT06816459

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study asks 30 daily menthol smokers to smell and taste cigarettes sold in New York and California to see if they can detect menthol flavor. California banned menthol cigarettes in 2022, but some brands may still taste minty. The goal is to understand if removing menthol as a listed flavor actually changes how the cigarette tastes.
