New study aims to unlock secrets of rare, deadly skin condition in kidney patients

NCT ID NCT07511283

First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at a rare but life-threatening condition called calciphylaxis, where small blood vessels in the skin harden. It happens mostly in people with advanced kidney disease, but doctors don't know exactly why or how to treat it effectively. Researchers will compare 860 kidney disease patients—some with calciphylaxis and some without—to find clues that could lead to earlier detection and new treatments.
