Caffeine for preemies: a tiny boost to leave the NICU faster?

NCT ID NCT07456670

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether giving caffeine to preterm infants (born at 28-34 weeks) who need breathing support can help them leave the hospital sooner. About 62 babies will receive either caffeine or a placebo daily while on respiratory support. The main goal is to see if a larger study is possible, but researchers will also track breathing, feeding, and time in the NICU.
