Could caffeine get preterm babies out of the NICU faster?
NCT ID NCT07456670
First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This pilot study will test whether giving caffeine to preterm babies (born 28-34 weeks) who need breathing help can shorten their stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). About 62 infants will be randomly assigned to receive either caffeine or a placebo daily while on respiratory support. The main goal is to see if a larger study is possible, but researchers will also track how quickly babies get healthy enough to go home.
