Tailored talk therapy shows promise for earthquake trauma
NCT ID NCT06189937
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tested a culturally adapted form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CA-CBT) for adults who experienced the earthquakes in Türkiye and have high psychological distress. Sixty participants received 8 group sessions focusing on trauma education, emotion regulation, and relaxation. The goal was to see if this therapy could reduce distress and depressive symptoms and boost well-being.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- culturally adapted cognitive behavioral therapy (CA-CBT)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide an effective, culturally tailored therapy to help earthquake survivors manage distress and improve well-being.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The therapy may not significantly reduce distress compared to no treatment.
