New technique could spare patients from surgery for stuck chest tubes

NCT ID NCT07338019

First seen Jan 16, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests a new method called the Buzdar Technique to safely remove chest tubes that have accidentally pierced the lung. Instead of surgery, the tube is left in place for two weeks to allow healing, then slowly pulled out over several weeks. The goal is to avoid complications like air leaks or bleeding and to offer a simpler option for patients, especially where advanced surgery is not available.
