Bubble test may help doctors place central lines faster during heart surgery
NCT ID NCT06243445
First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study tested a simple method to confirm the position of a central venous catheter (a large IV) during heart surgery. Doctors injected a saltwater solution to create tiny bubbles and used an ultrasound on the chest to see how long it took for the bubbles to reach the heart. The goal was to see if this technique could reliably tell where the catheter tip was located. The study involved 22 heart surgery patients and was purely observational, meaning it did not test a new treatment.
