Four minutes to less pain? mindfulness audio tested against standard advice.
NCT ID NCT07025161
First seen Jul 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a brief, 4-minute audio recording of mindful breathing and mindfulness of pain can lower how unpleasant pain feels compared to a standard audio about pain coping tips. About 200 English- and Spanish-speaking adults seeking care at a free clinic will be randomly assigned to one of the two recordings. The goal is to see if a quick mindfulness exercise can offer immediate relief without medication.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a 4-minute audio recording of mindful breathing and mindfulness of pain exercises
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a quick, free, drug-free way to reduce pain unpleasantness in a clinic setting.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial testing only a single 4-minute session, so any effects may be short-lived or not generalizable to other settings.
