Free pumps and pickup aim to close breast milk gap for tiniest infants
NCT ID NCT04540575
Summary
This study tested whether providing practical support helps mothers of very low birth weight babies continue providing their own breast milk. Researchers gave some mothers a free hospital-grade breast pump, arranged for milk pickup, and covered some costs, while others received standard care. The goal was to see if this support helped more babies go home from the hospital receiving their mother's milk, especially addressing a known racial disparity.
