New hope for BRCA breast cancer: targeted chemo shows promise in trial

NCT ID NCT01670500

First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested whether the chemotherapy drug cisplatin works better than a standard combination (doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide) for women with newly diagnosed breast cancer who carry a BRCA gene mutation. 118 women participated, receiving one of the two treatments before surgery. The main goal was to see which drug more effectively eliminated all signs of cancer in the breast tissue removed during surgery.
