Could a simple shave during breast cancer surgery spare patients a second trip to the OR?
NCT ID NCT05782686
First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study compares two breast-conserving surgery methods: standard surgery versus adding a systematic shaving step to remove a thin layer around the tumor cavity. The goal is to see if shaving reduces the chance of leftover cancer cells at the surgical margin, which often requires a second surgery. About 234 women with early-stage breast cancer will take part. The approach aims to improve surgical precision and reduce repeat procedures.
