BREAST CANCER BREAKTHROUGH: SURGERY AND RADIATION MAY BE AVOIDED IN SOME PATIENTS
NCT ID NCT02945579
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study is testing whether certain breast cancer patients who respond extremely well to initial drug therapy can safely skip surgery or radiation. For HER2-positive and triple-negative breast cancers, if a biopsy shows no cancer left after drug treatment, patients receive only radiation (no surgery). For ER-positive/HER2-negative cancers, if no cancer remains after hormone therapy and targeted radiation, patients continue hormone therapy alone. The goal is to reduce unnecessary treatments while keeping cancer from coming back.
