Can an ultrasound spot cancer genes? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT05769517

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether ultrasound images of healthy ovaries can predict if a woman carries a harmful BRCA gene mutation, which raises the risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Researchers will develop a computer model using thousands of images from women with known BRCA status. If successful, this could offer a non-invasive way to screen for these mutations and help prevent cancer.
