Surgeons use glowing dye to hunt brain tumors

NCT ID NCT03262636

Summary

This study tested whether a safe, FDA-approved fluorescent dye called indocyanine green (ICG) could make brain tumors 'glow' under special near-infrared light during surgery. The goal was to help surgeons see the edges of the tumor more clearly so they could remove more of it, potentially leading to better outcomes. The trial enrolled 363 adults with brain tumors to see how well the glowing dye identified tumor tissue compared to standard surgical methods.
