Radiation with a memory shield: new approach fights Kids' brain tumors while protecting thinking skills

NCT ID NCT04065776

Summary

This study tests whether a specialized form of radiation called proton therapy can be precisely aimed to avoid damaging memory centers in the brain while treating low-grade brain tumors in children and young adults. Researchers want to see if this 'hippocampal avoidance' technique is feasible and whether it helps preserve memory and thinking skills over time. The study will follow 74 participants for up to 5 years to monitor both tumor control and cognitive function.
