Scientists scan brains of abuse survivors to unravel dissociation

Summary
This study looks at how childhood abuse affects the brain and causes dissociation (feeling detached from yourself or reality). Researchers will use MRI scans and thinking tests in about 200 women with PTSD or Dissociative Identity Disorder, plus healthy volunteers. The goal is to understand the brain basis of dissociation, not to provide treatment.
