Brain pacemaker tested as last hope for severe depression

NCT ID NCT02046330

Summary

This study is testing whether deep brain stimulation (DBS) can help people with severe depression that hasn't improved with standard treatments like medication, therapy, or electroconvulsive therapy. Doctors will implant a small device, similar to a pacemaker, to deliver electrical pulses to a specific brain area. The goal is to see if this approach can reduce depression symptoms in patients who have exhausted other options.
