Brain implant trial offers hope for children who harm themselves

Summary
This study is testing whether deep brain stimulation can reduce severe self-injurious behaviors in children with autism who haven't responded to other treatments. Researchers will implant small devices in the brains of 25 children to deliver electrical stimulation to specific areas. The study will compare periods when the device is active versus inactive to see if stimulation reduces self-harm behaviors and improves quality of life.
