First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 35 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether shining near-infrared light on the head (transcranial photobiomodulation) can improve blood flow and thinking in older adults. Thirty participants aged 21-85 will receive either active or sham treatment every other day for 4 weeks. Researchers will measure brain activity, cognitive performance, and blood markers of inflammation. The goal is to understand how this non-invasive technique affects the aging brain.
