Scientists map Brain's language control center
NCT ID NCT03124173
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study used fMRI brain scans to understand how two brain regions—Broca's area and the mid-cingulate cortex—work together to control language. Twenty-three healthy, right-handed adults performed a learning task while their brain activity was measured. The goal is to learn how these areas support cognitive control of speech, which could eventually help design better therapies for people with language problems.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could improve rehabilitation strategies for language disorders by targeting non-linguistic brain functions.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage observational study in healthy volunteers, so findings may not directly apply to patients with brain injuries or language impairments.
