Blood test may spare seniors unnecessary brain scans after falls

NCT ID NCT05425251

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looked at whether two blood markers (GFAP and UCH-L1) can accurately detect brain damage in adults 65 and older after a mild head injury. Over 2,200 participants provided blood samples and had CT scans to compare results. The goal is to reduce unnecessary CT scans, which are costly and expose patients to radiation, especially in older people with other health conditions.
