Brain wave monitor may spot sepsis severity faster
NCT ID NCT03244293
First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a device that measures brain activity (called BIS) can help doctors quickly tell how severe a patient's sepsis is. Sepsis is a life-threatening response to infection that can affect the brain. The researchers will compare BIS readings with a standard blood test (procalcitonin) in 20 critically ill patients. The goal is to see if BIS can be a useful tool for monitoring sepsis without needing frequent blood draws.
