Can a soy compound shield lungs from radiation damage?
NCT ID NCT07323732
First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether adding BIO 300 (a synthetic soy compound) to standard radiation therapy can prevent severe lung inflammation (pneumonitis) in people with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer who also have interstitial lung disease. About 25 participants will receive the drug alongside radiation. The goal is to see if this combination improves survival without serious lung side effects.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
BIO 300 (a synthetic form of genistein, a soy compound)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a way to reduce severe lung inflammation from radiation therapy in patients with both lung cancer and interstitial lung disease.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase trial with only 25 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The drug may not prevent pneumonitis or could cause side effects.
