Could a common heart drug spark new muscle growth in babies?
NCT ID NCT04713657
First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This early-phase trial tests whether the drug propranolol can stimulate new heart muscle cell growth in infants born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a serious heart defect. About 40 babies under 60 days old will receive the drug before routine surgery, and researchers will examine discarded heart tissue for signs of new muscle cells. The goal is to find a way to prevent heart failure later in life.
