Your own blood may soothe severe dry eyes

NCT ID NCT07469865

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tested whether eye drops made from a patient's own blood (autologous serum) can relieve severe dry eye symptoms better than standard artificial tears. 46 adults with severe dry eye disease tried both diluted (20%) and undiluted (100%) serum drops, as well as artificial tears, in a blinded crossover design. The main goal was to see if these drops improved eye comfort and reduced signs of damage on the eye's surface.
